Sail Away

This was my bucket list item for my ‘twins’, Matthew and Morgan, to go on a cruise with us before they went off totally on their own and would be too embarrassed to be seen with us on a vacation or for that matter anywhere!

We drove to Charleston to spend the night there before we boarded the ship on Monday morning with the port of calls being Nassau and Freeport. While in Charleston with the intention of walking around the old town and sightseeing, the only thing we saw were umbrellas that were trying to hold off the heavy downpour of rain that welcomed us to the city.

The cruise was relaxing with plenty of food and booze (just ask Matthew) along with excursions to the private beach

that the Carnival cruise line owns and then the Atlantis resort to have a round of drinks (I took out financing for 36 months without any finance charges.) 🙂

Matthew thought it would be fun to play Texas Hold ‘em on the ship where everything was digital: the dealer, the cards, the chips. Sadly for Matthew the money was real and lost about $400 over the course of the week. Then he decided to lose his lunch after a night out with some friends. Can’t win them all!

New York City Midtown

The American flag always looks good no matter what it is on.

After living in New Jersery for more than 50 years, it took me moving to Raleigh to find the time to go to all the places I wanted to go to in NYC. I was glad to do the trip solo so that I would not have to worry about anyone keeping the pace that I set for myself going from site to site. And boy was it a pace for the entire day! The energy, the sites, the smells (some good some not so good) were great to experience during that one day in midtown. Looking forward to my next trip in October 2018 while staying at the Marriot hotel on 34th Street for four nights.

New York City Downtown

After being away from the ‘city’ for over 14 years I made plans to pay my respects to those who lost their lives on 9/11. I was able to stay in NJ and then take NJ Transit to downtown NYC.

I will let the photo gallery do the rest of the narrative for me as words cannot express emotion for this event. And if time permits, take the trip yourself to visit NYC and pay your respects as well. Please remember it is a memorial and not a tourist attaction where you take ‘selfies’ and smile. It is a memorial not Disney World.

Charlotte TFY Anniversary

For the past two years we have been making Charlotte our destination to celebrate our anniversary which is also used to see our friend Marion. A win win situation.

It’s a great city with so many things to do, places to eat and homes to droll over! We saw some amazing neighborhoods surrounded by trees and bikes paths scattered throughout our time sent there over the long weekend.

We look forward to going every year!

30th Wedding Anniversary

I did? To him? No?

On this day, April 25, 1987, I married my best friend, Barbara Jean Owens. We met at the racquetball courts in Trenton, N.J. She was playing racquetball with her friend Bill Koetas and I was there with my good friend Jonathan Smith.

On a weekend afternoon Jonathan and I attended an Octoberfest in Plainsboro, N.J. where they both lived at the time. Barbara was wearing this oversized pink sweater while riding her bike through the event. Jonathan and I had a bit too much to drink, which was not unusual for us at the time, and apparently I stopped her while she was on her bike and asked her to go out. At least that is what she tells me anyway.

After dating about one year I asked her to marry me. How could she refuse? Probably after 30 years she should have known better than to put up with me but hey, everybody makes mistakes!

There are many good stories to share with lots of smiles and laughs and an occasional tear but it has been a good run so far and I look forward to many more as we get older. Time goes fast, we all know that especially as we get older. Our kids don’t quite see it that way yet but one day …

Boo Boo Birthday

Today, April 18, is the birth of our beautiful, talented, intelligent, charminBoo-1g (see paid me $20 so I have to keep going), warm, loving, and athletic daughter, Morgan Elizabeth, aka Boo Boo!

She was surprised to see her parental units in attendance while she was celebrating at the My Way Tavern in downtown Raleigh. Upon our arrival they were in the middle of a trivia game hosted by the tavern and the rivalry amongst the patrons was fierce.

Joining her at the celebration was her ‘friend’ Joe (aka Joey) who is not Jewish we just learned. Just sayin’! Along with her ‘friend’ there was Jessica, Taylor, Brady and Tara. Surprisingly they were sober and just munching on chips and salsa along with a variety of fried foods. My favorite: the pretzel bites. To die from! Here is the menu for your shopping convenience should you decide to go!

Being the good dad that I am, I discreetly gestured to the server to hand me the bill to settle up the tab for the table. I figured as I get older the crew at the table might remember that and not push me down while I am using my walker! I can only hope that is the case 🙂

Happy Birthday Boo Boo!  You are loved by so many!
